During a period of intense media coverage surrounding Homer Simpson, he searched television for a program that was not mocking him, since most news and entertainment shows had been continuously ridiculing him during the scandal. Believing Evening at the Improv only focused on outdated 1980s-style material, Homer decided to watch it instead. During the broadcast, a comedian performed a joke imagining what the child of E.T. and *Mr. T would be like, delivering the punchline "Mr. E.T." to laughter from the audience.
