Categories are a feature of wiki sites that group together similar or related articles.

Categories[edit]

Main article: Special:Categories

Categories can be added to a page either by using the HotCat extension (which allows categories to be added or removed without needing to go into edit mode) or by editing a page and adding [[Category:Category name]] to a page. Categories usually go at the bottom of the page, after the article's content, and after any navboxes.

Categories should be used on every article and file page on Wikisimpsons. Many templates also add categories to pages without the need to add them yourself. If an article doesn't have categories, it will be listed under Special:UncategorizedPages.

Ordering[edit]

While categories can be ordered in any way, Wikisimpsons follows a certain pattern for ordering on various pages. The common ordering format for certain page types will be listed below:

Characters[edit]

The ordering for character categories goes in the order of:

  • Age group (i.e. Adults, Children, Seniors, Babies).
  • Job/Other miscellaneous categories (i.e. Actors, Scientists, Dancers, etc.). These go in alphabetical order.
  • Voice category (i.e. Characters voiced by Hank Azaria, Characters voiced by guest stars, Non-speaking characters, etc.).
  • Picture-only characters (if the character only appears in a picture).
  • Recurring characters/One-time characters.
  • Characters introduced in season X (with X being the number of the season. Only used on recurring character pages).

Locations[edit]

The ordering of location categories goes in the order of:

  • Location type (i.e. Residential, Tourist attractions, etc.).
  • Fictional locations/Non-canon locations category.
  • Recurring locations/One-time locations category.

Episodes[edit]

The ordering of episode categories goes in the order of:

  • Year of release.
  • Character categories (i.e. Lisa episodes, Mr. Burns episodes, etc.). These go in the order of Simpson family members first in age order (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie), then other characters in alphabetical order.
  • Episode themes (i.e. Travel episodes, Christmas episodes, etc.).
  • Writer categories.
  • Director categories.

Files[edit]

The ordering of file/image categories goes in the order of:

  • Top-level categories (i.e. Images - Characters, Images - Media, Images - Locations).
    • If an animal (that doesn't have its own image category), Images - Animals goes after Images - Characters.
  • Character categories (i.e. Images - Homer, Images - Bart, etc.). These go in the order of Simpson family members first in age order (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie), then other characters in alphabetical order.
    • The only exception to this rule is Tapped Out character collection images, which go in order from left to right.
