Spilotantha Daphne is a type of orchid. The flower was named after the mother of Charles Montgomery Burns, Spilotantha Burns.

History

In the 1920s, Mr. Burns was a much nicer man who went by "Monty B." This was in part because he tended the Spilotantha Daphne orchids, which was a task his mother left to him. When Lisa traveled back in time to the 1920s, taking over the body of her great-grandmother Edith, she convinced Monty and the townspeople to save the Springfield Mini Moose from extinction. However, Lisa accidentally caused them to stampede through Monty's greenhouse, where they destroyed and ate all the Spilotantha Daphne orchids.

Monty became angry at the destruction of his mother's flowers and decided to become a tycoon and pave over the entire town. However, before he turned fully evil, he left Edith a message to find something he had left for her in the basement of the Little Moose Club. This turned out to be some Spilotantha Daphne seeds, as well as a valuable Tiffany lamp (which was broken by the time Lisa found it) packaged in some old baseball cards, which turned out to be worth a fortune. Lisa then opened up a park filled with Spilotantha Daphne orchids.
