Reverend Lovejoy's Hellfire Comics: Citizen Shame! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #23.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Reverend Lovejoy talks about how easily you can go to hell with notes and doodles by Bart Simpson."
Plot[edit]
Reverend Lovejoy introduces the comic, which he claims shows the consequences of hooliganism. Bart has doodled and added notes over the pages of the comic book. The story starts off showing the life of Burt, who's similarity to an actual Springfieldian is said to be purely coincidental. Burt is a good son who does the dishes, is a bright and eager student, and a friendly neighbor. However, Burt fell in with a bad crowd of hooligans who had him place a prank call. The prank call then leads Burt into hooliganism as he goes around town breaking laws.
Eventually, Burt's hooliganism leads to him losing his friends, and even his fellow hooligans as they feel he has gone too far with his hooliganism. Burt eventually went insane and cut off Klutzy the Klown's head and carried it to the top of the water tower. As Burt's mother tries to talk him down, the police shoot him with tranquilizers to bring him down and he gets sent to a mental hospital. Reverend Lovejoy then tells the reader that this story serves as a warning to always practice good citizenship.
