- The heavily guarded wall splitting the town into two is a reference to the Berlin Wall.
- Homer's line "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?", is a reference to a line from the song Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 from Pink Floyd's album, The Wall.
Trivia
- The plot is similar to the episode A Tale of Two Springfields, including one side of Springfield containing all the richer and snobbier people, one side losing their water supply, and a wall splitting two sides of the town. The episode aired in November 2000, three months after this comic was released.
