Don Mattingly was first baseman for the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1995. He voiced himself in the episode "Homer at the Bat".

Don Mattingly was voted joint 17th in IGN's "Top 25 Simpsons Guest Appearances" along with fellow Baseball players Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey Jr., Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Mike Scioscia and Terry Cashman.
