Cultural references

  • The comic title is a reference to Gene Simmons of KISS, who wrote the story, and their song "God of Thunder".
    • Gene Simmons and KISS make appearances in the story, with Simmons being Bart's biological father.
    • Bart tells the students to consider themselves "animalized" and calls them his little "creatures of the night," a reference to the albums Animalize and Creatures of the Night.
    • Bart refers to himself as "king of the nighttime world", a reference to the song "King of the Night Time World" from Destroyer.
    • Bart says that every day will be Free Comics Day and holds up a copy of KISS comics. KISS has real comics from multiple different publishers.
