Career Day is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #99.

Synopsis

"Professor Frink's newest invention can predict the future employment of all the students at Springfield Elementary, but it isn't a field day for Frink when the children's reaction to Career Day turns into a mini-melee."

Plot

Springfield Elementary School is having their first annual Career Day, sponsored by Krusty Burger. Professor Frink has built a virtual reality helmet, so the children can find out with which job they will have in the future. Milhouse is the first student to test the machine. He hopes to work with dolphins. It turns out that he will work in a fish factory and sort dolphin and tuna meat for the New Krustyburger Fish Sandwich. Milhouse feels sick and tells Principal Skinner that he will quit school if that is how his future turns out.

The next student to test the machine is Lisa. According to the simulator, she will work as a scientist, which she is happy about. She quickly becomes friends with her colleague, a hybrid rabbit named Mr. Fuzzytail. But Lisa soon discovers that she and Fuzzytail are currently developing a new meat-based milkshake for Krusty Burger. Lisa begins to scream and tells Skinner that it is a strange coincidence that she and Milhouse are both going to work for Krusty Burger, but Skinner dismisses her remark and Frink points out that there is room for everyone at Krusty Burger.

Skinner whispers that Frink is ruining the future of Krusty Burger. Bart is the next student to test the machine. He wants to demolish buildings. Lisa discovers that the building he destroys is going to be replaced with a Krusty Burger, and yells again over the ads. Nelson also becomes tired of the ads.

Skinner asks Frink to remove the ads completely and tests the simulator out himself. It turns out that in 2050, he will still work at the school. Frink comes by and tells him that his salary was cut when he removed the ads and he cannot afford to retire. Skinner then screams and the machine explodes. Skinner sends the kids home because they think it was the coolest assembly ever.
