Cultural references
- The episode title is a pun on the Discovery Channel documentary/reality TV show Deadliest Catch.
- During the montage of Ned and Edna dating:
- The music playing is "Heaven Must Have Sent You" by The Elgins.
- When they cross a creek, Ned parts the water with a staff, reminiscent of Moses and the Israelites crossing the Red Sea.
- The girls basketball team is called "Lady Pumas" parody of the singer Lady Gaga.
- The idea of Bart's teacher, Mrs. Krabappel living next door to him is similar to the sitcom Boy Meets World, where the main character Cory Matthews lives next door to his teacher, Mr. Feeny.
Trivia
- Chalmers says "Skinner", not "SSKIIINNEERR!!".
- Quite a few words rhyme with Krabappel, including:
- Apple
- Chapel
- Dapple
- Grapple
- Mapple
- Topple (used by Ned)
- Dewey Largo drives a Smart car.
- Ned's "Do-not-go" list of places with racy-sounding names consists of:
- In-N-Out Burger
- Jiffy Lube
- Pinkberry (Ned crosses it off after Edna takes him there)
- Yamaha Organs
- Fannie Farmer (possibly a misspelling of Fanny Farmer)
- Ned states that the Leftorium has been open 10 years, there were indeed 10 years between "When Flanders Failed" and this episode.
Continuity
- Brunella Pommelhorst appears for the first time since announcing she was going to have a sex-change operation ("My Fair Laddy"). However, she looks exactly the same as before, so it would seem that she decided not to go through with the operation.
- Joey Kramer's appearance references "Flaming Moe's".
- Some of Edna's previous relationships have been seen or referred in previous episodes.
- Ned and Edna have dated before ("Alone Again, Natura-Diddily").
Goofs
- Sherri, Terri and Wendell Borton move from the audience to the band.
- The coffee mug Homer borrowed from Ned Flanders is a right-handed mug, but Ned is left-handed.
- Ned says he and Edna have never been "formally introduced" despite meeting and talking multiple times in previous episodes, including going on a date with each other in "Alone Again, Natura-Diddily" where Ned was put off by Edna just using him to get Skinner jealous.
Notes
- In UK airings, a note at the scene where Marge tells viewers to go to thesimpsons.com to vote says "Unfortunately, voting is not available in this area", and a voiceover is heard over the credits by Homer and Marge, telling viewers that in reruns or on DVDs it's too late to vote.
