Futurama is an animated science-fiction comedy show, that was also created by Matt Groening. Numerous references have been made to the show throughout the run of The Simpsons. Many people have compared the Futurama main characters with the main simpsons characters such as Bender is Futurama's Homer.

A running joke is that on The Simpsons, Futurama is a fictional cartoon show...on Futurama, however, it is The Simpsons that is a fictional cartoon show.

• "Treehouse of Horror IX": David X. Cohen's pseudnoymn is David "Watch Futurama" Cohen.
• "Mayored to the Mob": Uter wears a Futurama T-shirt at the "Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con". At this point Futurama' had yet to begin airing.
• "Missionary: Impossible": Bender appears in FOX telethon.
• "HOMЯ": A yellow Fry appears in the couch gag.
• "Bart vs. Lisa vs. The Third Grade": Bender is one of the TV characters Bart hallucinates and sees the kids turns into.
• "My Big Fat Geek Wedding": Matt Groening appears as himself at the Comic Book convention, billed as the creator of Futurama.
• "Fraudcast News": Squeaky Voiced Teen yells: "Why did they have to cancel Futurama?!" before jumping off a mountain.

• "Future-Drama": Bender appears when Homer and Bart pass through the tunnel; John DiMaggio guest stars as the voice of Bender. The episode's title is a reference to Futurama as well.
• "Homerazzi": Sideshow Mel eats the American Flag just as Dr. Zoidberg did in "A Taste of Freedom".
• "That 90's Show": Homer says that Matt Groening created Futurama at the time.
• "Helter Shelter": One of the figurines sitting on Comic Book Guy's shelf is a model of the Planet Express Ship.
• " In an Issue of the Bart Simpsons comics where Bart has taken over Comic Book Guys stall, the comic convention suddenly opens thousands of kids come rush at Bart asking him to trade thier comics with him,(Since the stall was a kinda Comic trade center) one of them being a kid who wants to trade his Futurama comic which his cat "peed on".
• In Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment there´s an alien from Bender's Big Score. When they watch the match he is in the front corner at the right.

The Simpsons in Futurama

In return, there have been a few references to The Simpsons on Futurama.

• "Space Pilot 3000": When Fry passes through an underwater tube, Blinky briefly appears in the water below him.
• "A Big Piece of Garbage": On the trash asteroid, a pile of Bart Simpson dolls can be seen. Bender picks up one and hears Bart say his catchprase, "Eat my shorts". Bender complies and eat them and mimics Homer in saying "Mmm... shorts".
• "Mars University": Homer, Bart, and Bobo toys appear.
• "Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?": the opening subtitle is "From the network that brought you 'The Simpsons'."
• "Luck of the Fryish": Bart's head appears on the shelf.
• "Leela's Homeworld": Bart's face appears in as part of the hot air balloon the main characters use to escape the sewers.
• "Bender's Big Score": Apu and Manjula's heads appear in the head museum.
• Bart, Lisa, and Maggie appear in the opening sequence on the TV screen in one of the Tracey Ullman Shorts in the episode Fry & the Slurm Factory.
• In the episode "Hell is Other Robots", when Leela and Fry enter the abandoned New Jersey amusement park, on the right wall there is a heart that says "H.S + M.B" a reference to the marriage between Homer Simpson and Marge Bouvier, stars of "The Simpsons".
• "The Second AOI": The clothes Bender wears as a human resemble Homer's
• Dan Castellaneta and Hank Azaria were guest stars on the show. Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, and Frank Welker were recurring voice actors.
