E.A.R.L. short for Electronic Automatic Robotic Lighthouse is a system that controls a lighthouse in Springfield.
History
Homer comes to the lighthouse because lighthouse keepers are the loneliest people. After climbing up, he finds that "Earl" is actually a machine to his annoyance. Homer then breaks the bulb in the lighthouse because the ship with people would become his friends after it crashes into him.
