After learning that Springfield Elementary School had struck oil, Mr. Burns launched a drilling operation through Burns Construction Co. The company built Burns Slant-Drilling Co. and began work on a plan to access the same underground oil reservoir. The project ultimately enabled Burns to divert the oil through a slant-drilling operation, depriving the school of the resource it had hoped to use to fund educational improvements.[1]
