Charlene is what Homer named Bart's putter.
History
After Homer forced Bart to participate in the miniature golf tournament, he told him to name the putter. Bart chose 'Mr. Putter', but Homer told him to give it a girl's name, Bart again chose 'Mom'. Homer finally said its name is 'Charlene', because it just is, that's why.
Behind the Laughter
"Charlene", it is a reference to a scene in Full Metal Jacket where Marines in basic training are ordered to give their rifles female names. A principal character names his "Charlene".
