- A gorilla is seen reading Murder on the Orangutan Express by Ape-atha Christie, a parody of Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie.
- The Trans-Spatial Stairclimber is a parody of the Cosmic Treadmill from DC Comics.

- Magmo appears in the comic that Bart was reading, who first appeared in Radioactive Man #88 in The Molten Menace of Magmo, the Lava Man. The comic panel says that he first appeared in this issue.
