"The Day the Earth Stood Cool" is the seventh episode of season 24 of The Simpsons and the five-hundred and fifteenth episode overall. It originally aired on December 9, 2012. The episode was written by Matt Selman and directed by Matthew Faughnan. It guest stars Fred Armisen as Terrence, Carrie Brownstein as Emily, Patton Oswalt as T-Rex and Colin Meloy as himself.
Contents
Synopsis
- "Homer befriends Terrence (Fred Armisen) and Emily (Carrie Brownstein), new neighbors from Portland. Homer becomes like Terrence because he wants a younger, hipper image. When Bart gets into a fight with Terrance and Emily's son T-Rex (Patton Oswalt), the friendship becomes strained and Terrence, angry at the Simpsons, calls his friends from Portland, and Springfield is soon full with 'cool' people. Meanwhile, Marge feels uncomfortable around Emily and her friends when they are breastfeeding, and she is feeding Maggie from the bottle."
Plot
Homer visiting the playground with Bart where he is called grandfather which made him annoying. At work, Homer sees that his colleagues are eating Devil Donuts but they are out, he calls to the police and they start together look for the vendor that sells those donuts. They find the vendor who has ran out of donuts for the day. The owner Terrence let Homer taste a new variety he is creating, and he likes it. They start talking and it appears that Terrence is a dad, Homer is surprising since he's cool which he's not anymore. Terrence tells Homer that you can not stop living just because you have children. Terrence says his family is from the Portland, and they're looking for a new place to move in. Homer says that his neighbors house is for sale. Terrence decides to buy it and he renovating the house.
The Simpson family visiting Terrence and his family for welcome them to the neighborhood. Lisa loves how the family lives while Bart think they are boring and go home. Marge talking with the mother, Emily, and when she starts breastfeeding her baby, Corduroy she becomes uncomfortable for she is not breastfeeding Maggie. Marge is about to tell Homer that she does not like the family when she is shocked when she learns that Terrence has shaved Homer. Terrance and Lisa continue to hang out with their new neighbors, Marge thinks they should calmly down with their new friends for they not live the same lifestyle. Homer tells then that they are cool which he is not, Marge tries to comfort him by saying that he is cool and always have been. Homer and the kids are with Terrance and his son on several events and having fun. Marge does not like how the kids and Homer has changed since they met their new neighbors. T-Rex has his birthday and to fit in at the party pretending Marge that she is breastfeeding Maggie, but when they find out the truth, at she gives her replacement wanted the other mother breastfeed her but Marge don't let them. T-Rex opens his presents and he mocks Homer's gift which made Bart angry and they start fighting. Terrence's family ends associate with Simpson after that. Homer miss his new friends. Ned Flanders tries to unite the two neighbors but fails, instead call the new neighbors their friends are from Portland and they moves in and takes over Springfield.
Homer and Marge do not like what happened to their city, the cool is all over. T-Rex and Bart have become friends again and T-Rex watching TV with Bart and forget to turn the family's compost making their house catches fire. Homer and Marge visit Terrence and Emily at a festival trying to get them to be kinder to them. During the discussion they smell the smoke from the house and they call the fire department who have lost their horses and can not put out the fire. They trying to us the hoose but the water has run out. The Simpson family tries the through the fire with the infant formula and manage to do it. Emily thanks Marge for her milk saved their homes. Marge acknowledges that she feels a little ashamed that she just breastfeeding Lisa. Lisa says that The New York Times exposure to Springfield USA's as the coolest city. The families from Portland leaves then Springfield, Lisa is sad and tell them at she will find them again.
