Cultural references
- The title is a pun on the 1960 song "Shop Around" by The Miracles. The lyric "You'd better shop around" is often repeated during the song.
- My Mother the Car Gets a Lube Job is a reference to the 1960s television series My Mother the Car, which has also been referenced in the title of the episode "My Mother the Carjacker"
- The Love Bug that Dare Not Speak Its Name is a reference to the 1968 film The Love Bug.
