Cultural references
- The cookbook that Serak had lent Kodos is titled To Serve Man, a reference to the The Twilight Zone episode of the same name.
- This particular episode has also been parodied in The Simpsons first halloween special, "Treehouse of Horror".
- Kang tells Kodos that cooking is the work of males, and that it is demeaning to see her even try it. This is a role reversal of stereotypical gender roles on earth.
- When Kodos tells Kang what she is making for dinner, Kang says "just like the one who spawned us used to make", a play on the phrase "just like mother used to make".
Trivia
- Kodos is referred to as being female.
- Even though Kang says that cooking is the work of males, he reveals shortly after that their own mother used to cook for them.
