History
The Simpson family attended the State Fair where Homer tried to talk his way through the entrance fee of 50¢ by saying he was a war veteran. Marge was excited to see all the products for sale at the State Fair whilst Lisa was taking part in a band competition with the Springfield Elementary School Band. Bachman–Turner Overdrive also performed at the State Fair. The Springfield Elementary band lost to the Ogdenville band after they used illegal tactics to win over the judges. After the competition, the Simpson family watched Duncan, the diving horse, before the show was shut down by Chief Wiggum as it was animal cruelty. The Simpsons then adopted Duncan.[1]
The Simpson family saw a sign for the fair while they were driving in the countryside. Bart was eager to stop at the fair and Marge was open to the idea, but Homer insisted that they keep driving. They ended up going to the fair anyway, however, when Maggie forced the issue by intentionally soiling her diaper in the car. While Marge tended to Maggie's diaper change, Bart and Lisa went off by themselves to enjoy the fair's attractions.[2]
The Simpsons later spent some time in the carnival section. Homer tried to win a prize for Lisa at a baseball-throwing booth, but failed (spectacularly and dramatically so). Maggie, on the other hand, handily won the same prize for Lisa at a rifle-shooting booth.[3]
Description
The attractions at the fair include the following:
- Various rides: a Merry-Go-Round, a Ferris wheel and a roller coaster
- Cotton candy
- Clowns selling balloons
- Game booths, including a Ring Toss (Cooder and Spud work at this booth)
- The "Tooth Chipper" ride
- A restroom with a diaper changing station, no doubt much appreciated by Marge and Maggie.
Appearances
- Episode – "Saddlesore Galactica"
- Comic story – Maggie's Crib 5
- Comic story – Maggie's Crib 10 (conjecture)
