References/Trivia

The boyband Boyz from da 'Burbs is probably a reference to both the boyband The Backstreet Boys and the film Boyz n the Hood.
- Their song I Want It That Way with my Vida Loca Genie in a Bottle One More Time is a reference to I Want It That Way, Livin' la Vida Loca, Genie in a Bottle and ...Baby One More Time by The Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears respectively.
In Homer's singing contest:
- Nelson sings "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee, lousy with virginity" from the song "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" from the movie Grease.
- Rod sings "Jesus loves me, yes I know! For the bible tells me so!" from the song "Jesus Loves Me".
- Milhouse sings "I get knoced down, but I get up again, said you're never gonna bring me down! I get knocked down, but I-" from the song "Tubthumping".
- Bart sings "Do the Bartman! Come on, everybody, do the Bartman" from the song "Do the Bartman".

The plot is similar to the episode "New Kids on the Blecch" both of which include Bart, Ralph and Nelson becoming part of a boy band whose voices need to be edited due to their bad singing. The episode aired in February 2001, four months before this comic was released.
