- The show's title references the motif in The Wonder Years of the main character's adult voice narrating the story of his younger self.

- The TV screen shows a picture from the Vietnam War. The photo was taken in 1968 by Eddie Adams and won a Pulitzer Prize.
- The Wonder Years has previously been referred to on The Simpsons:
- "Three Men and a Comic Book" - Bart's adult self reflects on his getting a job, with the voice provided by Wonder Years narrator Daniel Stern.
- "The Blunder Years" - Punned in the title.
