The Simpsons and the theremin
Ever since the first Treehouse of Horror episode, Matt Groening had wanted an actual theremin to play the opening cue. However they were unable to find a theremin player who'd be able to work during the tight time and rigorousness of TV scoring, so they used a synthesiser with a theremin sample, much to the disappointment of Matt. However, due to Milhouse wooing Lisa by playing the theremin in "Homer Scissorhands", the cue was forced to find a theremin player, who turned out to be Charles Richard Lester. He reprised his role for "Treehouse of Horror XXII", making it the first of the Treehouse of Horror episodes to feature an actual theremin.[1]
