Opening sequence
- The opening sequence is a parody of 127 Hours.
- Homer gets his arm trapped like Aron Ralston and gnaws through several limbs, before gnawing through his trapped arm. Ralston had to eat through his own arm to get released.
The Diving Bell and Butterball
- Homer gets bitten by a spider and becomes a parody of Spider-Man.
Dial D for Diddly
- The title is a reference to Dial M for Murder.
- The segment is a parody of Dexter.
- The scene where Ned kills Patty and Selma is a parody of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner of Looney Tunes.
In the Na’Vi
- The name is a reference to the song, "In the Navy".
- The segment is a parody of the film, Avatar.
- The floating mountains, as seen in the film, are actually falling.
