When it was illegal in Springfield to not have any money, Maggie was put on trial. Oprah Winfrey visited the Simpson house one day while Homer was watching Maggie and organized for Maggie to have a book, Crime Baby, written about her, with Maggie as the credited writer. However, the book was ghostwritten by Kent Brockman's ghostwriter. The proceeds Maggie received from the book's sales led to her being found not guilty due to having money.
