The Princess Principle is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #55.

Synopsis[edit]

Lisa decides to participate in a princess contest where the first prize is a pony, where she competes against all the girls in Springfield and Bart.

Plot[edit]

Chapter 1: Let the Games Begin[edit]

All the girls in Springfield go crazy when they see a poster for Princess Ponypalooza, which is coming to town. Lisa is skeptical of it because it's just a promotional gimmick to get people to buy more toys and accessories. However, when Francine Rhenquist points out that the princess fashion contest winner wins a real pony, Lisa becomes interested, despite hating princess couture. A princess and Princess Precious show up, drawing the attention of everyone. Meanwhile, Lisa battles with herself because she wants to win the pony, but doesn't want to join such a reprehensible contest. When she gets closer to Princess Precious, she imagines herself riding the pony and having fun. She then decides to enter the contest.

Lisa goes to The Android's Dungeon to look at Princess Pony merchandise, where she is convinced by Comic Book Guy to buy the Princess Pony Boudoir Beauty playset. As she leaves, Bart skateboards past her but backs up when he notices what Lisa has bought. When Lisa says that the winner gets a pony, Bart becomes interested because a pony would make mowing the lawn a breeze. Lisa tells Bart to butt out as the contest is for princesses only, but Bart decides to enter anyway, with Comic Book Guy telling him that he'll teach him about Princess Pony.

Chapter 2: Pony Up[edit]

Lisa starts working on her costume for the contest in the attic using Marge's old satin prom dress. Meanwhile, Bart also gets to work on a more manly outfit, using leopard print and metal. When Marge goes to the attic to see what Lisa is up to, Lisa hides the dress and lies to her mom, saying she's making her a birthday present. Marge tells Lisa that she's smart, creative, and pure of heart, which makes Lisa feel bad because she just lied to Marge. Meanwhile, Homer goes to see what Bart is up to and Bart claims he's building a robot. Bart tells Homer that if it goes well, he will never have to mow the lawn again. When Homer points out that it has a skirt, Bart claims that it's Scottish, with Homer thinking of Groundskeeper Willie. Homer tells Bart that if his robot works out, they can build an army of robots to mow lawns. Homer tells Bart that he's proud of him, which makes Bart feel guilty.

Bart decides to take his outfit out for a test drive, putting a hockey mask on to hide his identity, and quickly finds a large number of girls in dresses going to the contest. When Marge and Lisa see the crowd, Lisa confesses to Marge that she was making a dress for the contest and she lied to her about making a birthday present. Marge tells a crying Lisa that she knows how much she loves ponies, and she was going to give the prom dress to her anyway. She then tells Lisa that she's proud of her for telling the truth.

Chapter 3: Judgement Day[edit]

On Channel 6 News, Kent Brockman reports about Princess Ponypalooza wreaking havoc in Springfield, with hundreds of girls fighting over the contest. Marge asks Lisa if she's decided whether she's going to enter the contest or not, and Lisa decides to go to show that not every girl in Springfield has gone insane. At Springfield Elementary School, where the contest is being held, Superintendent Chalmers and Principal Skinner are arguing with people from Princess Pony because Chalmers and Skinner want to cancel the contest due to the mayhem the girls are causing, with many becoming too injured or scared to compete. However, because they signed a contract, they are forced to carry out the contest. Lisa and Bart both show up at roughly the same time and are selected as the only two entrants. The contest starts and Lisa immediately speaks out against the exploitation of young girls used by the Princess Pony company. This leads to Barbarella Samson being declared the winner. However, Princess Precious pulls off Bart's wig and mask, exposing him to the audience. Bart is disqualified from the contest and Lisa wins by default.

Back at home, Marge tells Lisa that she did a wonderful thing by giving away Princess Precious to a pony protection group so she can play in green pastures and never have to wear a saddle or harness. Homer points out to Bart that he lied when he told him that he was making a robot, as he really made a girly costume. Bart asks if he really thinks that it looks girly, and Homer points out that it has a skirt. Bart puts on the hockey mask and grabs a chainsaw, which impresses Homer.
