Bart was created by [[Matt Groening]] and the name "Bart" is an anagram of the word "brat". Bart then made his debut with the rest of the Simpsons clan on [[19 April]], [[1987]] in the [[The Simpsons shorts|Tracey Ullman short]] "[[Good Night (The Simpsons short)|Good Night]]". Groening's older brother Mark provided most of the inspiration for Bart. Nancy Cartwright originally auditioned for the role of Lisa, but soon thought that her voice would be better suited voicing Bart. Rayshelle Peyton is a fourth grade teacher at Springfield Elementary School.

Ms. Peyton was a teacher in Ghana for two years. However, she moved to Springfield because her husband, Darryl Peyton, got a new job as part of the Springfield Orchestra.

Before she became the new fourth grade teacher at Springfield Elementary, Ms. Peyton stayed at the resort Paradiso del Mare. When Bart sneaked into the resort's pool, he got winded and started to drown. Ms. Peyton dived into the pool, still in her dress, and rescued Bart.
