The episode was written by Dan Vebber and directed by Matthew Nastuk. It guest stars Colin Jost as himself and Emma Thompson as Constance Clavinger.

Synopsis[edit]

Marge hopes to save Springfield Elementary by inviting a reclusive British children's author to appear at the school's book fair. But Homer botches his assignment of picking the author up at the airport, and the drunken pepper pot leads him on a desperate wild chase to get her to the school on time.

Plot[edit]

Marge swears an oath to become part of the parent-teacher association at Springfield Elementary, but Superintendent Chalmers announces that the school is closing down at the end of the year due to the low test scores and owl infestations, and all teachers will be fired. Marge vows to collaborate to save the school, but they refuse. At home, she tries to come up with a solution with the rest of the family.

A PTA meeting occurs at the school, [[where Dewey Largo proposes reaching out to Constance Clavinger, creator of the beloved children's book The Plucky Little Goat, who has agreed to come to the book fair to read the sequel to her book, The Further Adventures of the Plucky Little Goat. During the preparations for the book fair, Helen Lovejoy throws a fit over books that have words hinting at the seven deadly sins. Marge is called in to rescue the fair and has to find a substitute to pick up Constance, so she gets Homer focused enough to go pick her up at the Springfield International Airport.

He manages to arrive in time, but Constance says she has to freshen up. Time passes, and Homer notices her at The Pilot's Room, drunk. On the way home, she keeps vomiting, and they stop at a boutique, Imperfect Kingdom, to purchase a new outfit, but they get arrested after she shoplifts. With the help of Snake, they sneak out, but Snake steals Homer's car, where the book is.

Homer and Constance manage to grab Hans Moleman's car and follow the tracker in the car to find where Snake took it. Homer saves the book (and a sandwich) from being destroyed, only to discover the sequel's plot, in which the goat is fed into a sausage grinder. She created it out of spite for people hounding her and because her husband has a tattoo of the book on his butt cheeks. Homer refuses to take her to the book fair, but she convinces Arnie Pye to take her there in his helicopter.

Homer follows them in Moleman's car, causing accidents to slow Arnie down, but Constance throws herself out of it, failing to activate her "Mary Poppins powers", and tumbles down the side of the road. Homer tries to follow her but tumbles the car down the road. Upon exiting, he has a concussion and starts seeing the world like a fantasy book while following her on foot.

She manages to arrive at the fair, and Homer tries to stop her, remembering reading her book to his children, but she doesn't yield until she sees him with the family and decides to tell the story of what happened that day between her (as the goat) and Homer (as a hippopotamus). In the end, Homer gets a tattoo of the goat on his butt while Constance gets one of the hippopotamus.

Production[edit]

The episode was revealed in The Simpsons D23 panel on August 15, 2026. The episode is a homage to the film Get Him to the Greek. The episode also features homages to popular children's books by Richard Scarry, Make Way for Ducklings, and The Stinky Cheese Man.[1]

The episode's writer, Dan Vebber, came up with the idea for the episode, and Michael Price was assigned to co-run the episode with him. They had the idea of Homer picking up Constance with her going crazy from the start. They had the episode leading toward Homer hallucinating the world as if it was a mishmash of children's books. Dan Vebber is a huge fan of illustrators and children's books, so he was able to come up with several that Michael Price wasn't familiar with. The fantasy sequence was originally planned to be longer, but was cut shorter for time.[2]
