Gumshoe Comics is a comic story first printed in C. Montgomery Burns' Handbook of World Domination.
Synopsis[edit]
- Fruit Bat Man decides that he wants a sidekick, so he takes to the streets of Springfield to look for an orphan to adopt. He and Smithers kidnap Bart and turn him into the sidekick Nuthatch.
Plot[edit]
At Burns' manor, Mr. Burns shows Smithers a copy of Batman where Batman has a sidekick, Robin. Burns tells Smithers that he wants a sidekick who is a laughing young daredevil who makes corny puns and gets captured so that Fruit Bat Man can save him. He tells Smithers to get his car so they can drive around looking for his new sidekick. They pass by the field where the Springfield Isotots are practicing and Burns sees Bart. Burns thinks that Bart will make a great sidekick, so he has Smithers stop the car next to him and says that it looks like Bart has been tragically orphaned. Bart tells Burns that he has parents, but Burns ignores him and tells Smithers to put a bag over Bart's head. They then take Bart back to the Fruit Bat Cave.
At the Fruit Bat Cave, Bart tells Fruit Bat Man that he doesn't want to be his sidekick. Smithers decides to talk with Bart and tells him that if he doesn't agree to become Fruit Bat Man's sidekick, Homer will be fired, which would mean Bart doesn't get an allowance. Hearing this, Bart reluctantly agrees to become Fruit Bat Man's sidekick. Meanwhile, Homer and Marge go to the police because of Bart's kidnapping. Chief Wiggum tells them that they have enacted emergency protocol and they just have to wait for any tips on Bart's whereabouts.
Back in the Fruit Bat Cave, Bart is given his new costume and the name Nuthatch, which he dislikes. Days later, nobody has needed any help, and Fruit Bat Man becomes bored, so he, Nuthatch, and Smithers go for a drive to look for any crimes to stop. Nuthatch sees an old woman trying to cross the street, but Fruit Bat Man runs her over accidentally. The car is pulled over by Chief Wiggum, who realizes that Nuthatch might be Bart, but isn't sure because of the mask. Wiggum decides to bring them in to the station anyway.
At the Springfield Police Station, Homer and Marge are asked to press charges against Mr. Burns, but they refuse since they don't want Homer to lose his job and they enjoyed their time without Bart. Mr. Burns says that he'll go search for a new sidekick, which gives Wiggum an idea. Wiggum becomes Round Robin, the new sidekick to Fruit Bat Man.
