- The title of the level is an obvious reference to the video game Shadow of the Colossus, which features the hero taking on giant constructs.
- Posters for Maddening are seen around, a reference to the Madden NFL video games.
- Kent Brockman says "get ready for a stomp, and unfortunately I'm not talking about the musical," referencing the theatrical show Stomp.
