The situation began after Homer entered The Little Black Box, an airport bar reserved for pilots, and falsely claimed to be part of a flight crew to obtain a drink and a uniform. Shortly afterward, airline staff urgently requested a pilot for a flight to Chicago and mistakenly escorted Homer onto the plane. While attempting to operate the aircraft alongside copilot Alan, Homer activated incorrect controls, causing the landing gear to retract prematurely and damaging the aircraft during takeoff preparations.
