Springfield Zoo or City Zoo[1] is a zoo in Springfield.

History[edit]

As the comet approached Springfield, its shadow passed over the city zoo, frightening the animals inside. During the panic, several penguins looked at one another and suddenly flew away, despite normally being flightless birds.[1]

Two rhinoceroses escaped from the Springfield Zoo, and their escapes were reported on the Channel 6 News. Zoo officials successfully recaptured a two-ton rhinoceros named Petunia, but a larger three-ton rhinoceros that had escaped the previous week remained at large and was later seen causing damage in Springfield Town Square.[2]

One of the animals at the zoo was Slow Leonard. When Homer visited the zoo, he found that Slow Leonard was missing. He and a group of people he met online accused the Springfield Zoo director of kidnapping him at first. Homer later found Slow Leonard down a rabbit hole at the zoo.[4]

When Bart turned into a black panther he was sent to live at the zoo.[7]

On a school trip, Bart wanted to prove he was still a bad boy, so he took on a dare by Sherri, Terri and Nelson to write his name inside one of the cages. While climbing in, his clothes ripped off and he became trapped inside. Milhouse and Principal Skinner also became trapped while trying to rescue him, until they were all freed by a zookeeper.[6]
