History[edit]

After Bart was expelled from school, Marge decided to homeschool him. For one of his assignments, Marge gave Bart Johnny Tremain to read, a book she had read as a little girl. Bart became interested in the story when he learned that the protagonist's hand was deformed in an accident. He started taking his studies seriously, even skipping an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show to continue reading. Seeing his enthusiasm, Marge took Bart on a "field trip" to Olde Springfield Towne.[1]

Johnny Tremain was one of the books that the children burned in the school library.[2]

Johnny Tremain himself with bandaged hand was in the crowd of Bostonians at the Boston Americans parade.[3]
