When Lisa tried to play him the song that his father had written for him, "[[Monk's New Tune]]", Monk told Lisa that he couldn't enjoy the song as he was deaf. Monk then explained to Lisa that he was born deaf and the cochlear implants were too expensive for his father to afford for him. Therefore, Monk learned to lip read and use sign language to communicate with other people.

Molly is an octopus that Lisa saved and befriended while filming My Cephalopod Soulmate.

When Lisa was making a film underwater as part of the Future Nature Documentarians, she found Molly and decided to film her. During the film, Molly was attacked by a shark and seemingly killed by it. However, Lisa actually saved Molly from the shark, with the shark only biting off one tentacle. Lisa then took Molly home with her, while she ended the film with Molly seemingly being killed because they weren't allowed to interfere with nature.
