On May 24, 2012, after The Best of The Simpsons #68 was released, "GOLD 1" appeared in the "SIMPSONS COMICS PRESENTS" listing on National Title File. This was confirmed by the Simpsons Comics News Blog. It had the on-sale date of July 19 under it, and the off-sale date of August 16. On May 31, it was confirmed by the Simpsons Comics News Blog, that the "GOLD 1" listing had vanished, and was replaced by "BART 40".
It is likely the comic was planned to have been released to coincide with the 2012 Olympic Games.
Second listing
On August 3, 2012, the Simpsons Comics News Blog reported that the "GOLD 1" listing had returned to the "SIMPSONS COMICS PRESENTS" listing on National Title File, with an on-sale date for September 13, and the off-sale date of October 11. The price is listed as £2.99. On August 16, 2012, Bart Simpson #41 was released, revealing the issue's name, The Simpsons Go for the Gold. The Simpsons Comics News Blog also reported that "GOLD 1" was this issue.
