Cultural references

Opening scene

• Homer is dressed as a trash bin version of Bender from Futurama.
• Maggie is dressed as Charlie Chaplin, but afterwards she changes to her look as Alex from A Clockwork Orange and turns to violence towards the bad guys.
• Homer has a election pin with "Ivanka 2028" written on it. This is a reference to Donald Trump daughter, Ivanka Trump.
• Frank Grimes mentions that this is the 600th episode saying "In hell they make you watch them all in a row". This is a reference to the FXX 13 days marathon, showing all the episodes of the show in a row.
• The lion on the left has a Guy Fawkes mask and the store is named "V. Appliances and Repairs", both referencing V for Vendetta in which the Guy Fawkes mask figures prominently.
• The lion on the right has a Darth Vader mask, referencing Star Wars.

Dry Hard

• The theme of the first part of the episode is based on the Hunger Games.
• The title of this segment is a reference to Die Hard.
• Milhouse tries to slide on a dry Slosh 'N' Splash by Bam-O, a reference to Slip 'N Slide by Wham-O.
• Homer holds a bottle of Amstel Blight, a reference to Amstel Light.
• Mr. Burns scene of pouring the water on himself is a reference to Flashdance.
• The scene with the cars heading toward the reservior is a reference to Mad Max: Fury Road, with Otto being Immortan Joe, Willie being Doof Warrior, and the heads on pole a reference to the people on the poles in the movie.
• The head coming out of Disco Stu's chest is a reference to Kuato from 1990's Total Recall.
• Drederick Tatum's vehicle is similar to Axel's from Twisted Metal.
• Dusty Springfield is a reference to the singer with the same name.
• Lisa says that after the river dried, "a drought of Chicago Cubs sized proportions hit Springfield", referencing the longest drought of World Series wins, Cubs', which had not won a World Series since 1908, although they did win the 2016 one 2 weeks later.

BFF R.I.P.

• The book Lisa is reading, How to Lose Friends & Unimagine People, is a reference to the book How to Win Friends and Influence People.
• Homer is drinking Logan's Rum, a reference to the movie Logan's Run, with the label looking like the movie poster.
• BFF and R.I.P. are acronyms of Best Friend Forever and Rest In Peace.

Moefinger

• The name of this segment is a parody of Goldfinger, a movie from the James Bond series.
  • The segment itself parodies action movies such as Kingsman: The Secret Service and the James Bond series itself.
• Maker's Moe is a reference to Maker's Mark.
• Moe says High Ball makes a good impression of Michael Caine.
• Bart is dressed as James Bond.
• Homer's Project Vulcan after-party is a reference to Project Vulcan.
• Homer and the cat are a reference to Ernst Stavro Blofeld from James Bond.
• Homer held a Steely Dan concert at the Duff Stadium. He asks them to play Babylon Sister from the album Gaucho during the fight scene.

600 song

• The music that was used closely resebles the Brian Song from Monty Python's The Life of Brian. The Intro of the movie is also a strong James Bond reference.

• Dan Castellaneta's nickname (for both his consulting producer and starring credits) is "Heeeere's DANNY!", a reference to The Shining.
• Dan Vebber's nickname is "H.P Lovebbercraft", a reference to H. P. Lovecraft.
• Drew Carey's nickname is "Boo Scary from The Fright is Right!" which refers to his status as the host of The Price is Right.

Opening scene

• Hans Moleman's car plate is "VABF16", the production code of the episode.
• Russ Cargill, holding the Multi-eyed squirrel in a cage (The Simpsons Movie), is seen in the trailers as one of the villains trying to kill the Simpsons but he doesn't appear in the episode.
• This is the first time Kang or Kodos doesn't speak Rigellian (which, by coincidence, is identical to English).

Dry Hard

• In Brick Like Me, at the end of the episode, while watching the movie The Survival Games: Braving Courage, Homer says he just wanted to see kids fight to the death. 50 episodes after, in this episode, that happens.

• Judith Owen is playing Mrs. Mancuso-Gluckman. She also sings the 600 theme at the end and also happens to be married to Harry Shearer.

Moe Finger

• Donald Fagen's "I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World)" was previously heard in "Future-Drama".
• Moe references the fact that the segment is part of the Halloween special.

• The order of cars going to Mr. Burns' reservoir changes between scenes.
• The kid on top of Apu's vehicle (either Sashi or Pria Nahasapeemapetilon) is yellow with blonde hair in one of the shots.

• When Lisa mounts on the motorbike, her right arm goes in the front of the bike's headlights.

Moefinger

• The shelf at Moe's Tavern was full of bottles, but on the next scene, it is full of empty beer mugs.
