Cultural references

  • The title is a play on an old slogan of Burger King: "Home of the Whopper".
  • At the movie studio, one of the posters is for a movie call Welcome Back, Potter. This is a parody of the movie/book series Harry Potter and the 1970s sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter.
  • The Villan in the Every Man film looks exactly like the Lizard, one of the villans of the comicbook hero Spider-Man.
  • Some of the posters in the movie theater were references to real life movies.
  • Eddie Murphy's The Fat Suit was a reference to his role as the Klump family in the "Nutty Professor" franchise.
  • In the Comic Book Store hangs a poster of Swatchmen, a parody on Watchmen.
  • After the man that trained Homer falls down to the ground he uses his shirt to as wings to fly like Rocky the Flying Squirel from The Rocky and Bullwinke Show.
  • The guy that trained Homer nicknames him as Homersapien as a references to the popular toy Robosapien.
  • The mural that Nelson is painting in the school yard resembles Picasso's "Guernica" but with some visual references to the Simpsons.

Trivia

  • This is the second episode in which Matt Groening, creator of the show, has guest starred as himself. He is seen loading his truck with Bongo Comics, his own line of comic books, while saying how rich he is.
    • When Groening is loading the comics into his truck, a picture of the Simpson family is visible on the back of his jacket.
  • Comic Book Guy's Everyman comic is later seen on the wall of his store in "Moms I'd Like to Forget".
