Ernest Borgnine (born January 24, 1917) is an American actor famous for his work both in movies and on television.

Borgnine's acting career spans six decades. During the 1950s, he was mainly a character actor, playing numerous roles on television and appearing as an unconventional lead in many movies, winning an Academy Award in the 1955 film Marty. More recently, Borgnine has voiced the character Mermaid Man on the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants and appeared in the final two episodes of ER.

Borgnine is also a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1935 to 1945.

On The Simpsons, Borgnine guest-starred in the episode "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood" as himself.
