The Nuclear Plant Employees Night was a company-sponsored evening at the Springfield Dragway where employees and their families were treated to a program of drag racing, including the Nuclear Power Plant Championship.

Nuclear Plant Employees Night was organized as an employee event at the Springfield Dragway, with Mr. Burns providing the evening's entertainment for the plant's employees and their families. The program featured several quarter-mile drag races, beginning with a benefit race for daredevil Lance Murdock. The main attraction was the Nuclear Power Plant Championship, which was presented as the feature race of the evening. Burns watched the championship from the stands with Smithers, but when the race was over almost immediately, he became dissatisfied with how quickly the cars had completed it. He therefore instructed Smithers to ask the drivers to keep their cars in first gear for a couple of laps, effectively slowing the championship down so Burns could enjoy watching it.
