After Homer Simpson left his job at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant to work at Barney's Bowlarama, he and Marge celebrated the change with a quiet evening together that ended with a walk along a Springfield Beach. The couple spent time near the shoreline after eating dinner and later returned home. The outing later became significant within the Simpson family because it was the night Maggie Simpson was conceived.[1]

A whale washed up on the beach once.[2]
