History[edit]
On the grand opening of Crazy Gil's Television Emporium, Gil ran a competition: whoever among the first three people to walk into the shop could watch 72 straight hours of television would win a free TV. Homer, Ned Flanders, and Groundskeeper Willie entered the competition. Fifteen hours in, Ned was the first to drop out as an indecent soap commercial aired. 43 hours in, Gil was making a lot of sales from the publicity. 67 hours in, Homer and Willie argued over who was going to win. At 71 hours, the 27-7 Woman Network presented My Mother's Filthy Secret, starring Meredith Baxter-Birney and Mindy Cohn, which scared Willie and caused him to quit. With only one minute left, Homer thought he had won the TV. However, Gil started a barbecue in the shop to lure Homer away from the TV. Homer ran toward the barbecue, which set fire to the cash Gil had received from customers and caused the shop to explode. Gil was sad because another business of his had burned down, and Homer asked when he would get his TV.
