  • Mr. Burns tells Ned's smiling desk ball that he will "break it in one day". It is later seen frowning.
  • The nuclear rods that have fallen down Homer's back is a reference to the opening sequence, where a rod falls down his back every time.
  • When Ned first arrives, the Fourth Grade students do an anti-teacher chant which implies that they had had several replacement teachers since Edna's passing and managed get rid of every single one.
