Fat Tony, Don Vittorio, Legs and Louie

The Springfield Mafia is an Italian-American Mafia crime syndicate based in Springfield.

History[edit]

The Springfield Mafia under Fat Tony's father.

For many years, an uneasy peace between the Springfield Mafia and the Prussian Mob existed. To keep this peace, the leaders of both gangs swapped their youngest children as collateral. Fatso Antonio D'Amico, the underboss before Fat Tony, sent Tony to live with Wilhelm von Wonthelm, leader of the Prussian Mob. While living with them, Tony became close to Wilhelm and ended up receiving the Prussian Mob's secret recipe for Gewalteintopf: The Stew of Violence. After their fathers' deaths, Fat Tony and Maximillian von Wonthelm took over leading their gangs, and they continued the tradition of swapping their youngest children.[1]

Business dealings[edit]

The Springfield Mafia once hired Bart Simpson as a bartender and errand boy in the local mob hangout, "The Legitimate Businessmen's Social Club". The hangout is a gambling place.[2]

When Homer became a licensed Krusty the Clown imitator, the D'Amico Family mistook him for the real one and tried to collect an assumably massive gambling debt (later revealed to be $49).[3] Krusty lost his daughter's violin to Tony in a poker game and later snuck into the mafioso's compound (with Homer's help) to steal it back.[4]

The family's schemes ranged from supplying rat's milk to the school cafeteria[5] to dabbling in the illegal fireworks racket.[6]

The gang also attempted to monopolize various legitimate businesses, once waging war with the local Yakuza over the pretzel business.[7] They are also responsible for maintaining Krusty Burger by keeping McDonald's and Burger King out of Springfield.[8]

The mafia was also responsible for tobacco, drug, and alcohol trafficking. When Springfield re-enacted Prohibition, Fat Tony and his crew naturally paid off the cops to allow them to sneak in alcohol.[9]

The mafia formerly owned the Springfield Isotopes until they sold them to Duff. According to Moe Szyslak, it was the last of the D'Amico Family-owned teams.[10]

Assets[edit]

The Springfield Mafia's main headquarters is the Legitimate Businessman's Social Club.[2] Fat Tony's compound is also frequently used as a base for them too.[4]
