Johnny Tremain is a Newberry Award-winning historical fiction book.
History
After Bart is expelled from school, his mother, Marge, decides to homeschool him. For one of his assignments, Marge gives Bart Johnny Tremain to read, a book she read as a little girl. Bart becomes interested in the story when he learns that the protagonist was deformed from a war injury. He starts taking his studies seriously, even skipping an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show to continue reading. Seeing his enthusiasm, Marge takes Bart on a "field trip" to Olde Springfield Towne.
