The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world and adjoins the west coasts of North and South America as well as Far East Asia, East Siberia and Oceania.
History
The Lewis and Clark expedition wanted to get to the Pacific Ocean. Eventually, they found their way to the Columbia River, with Sacagawea's help, and followed it to the Pacific Ocean. When they arrived there, they decided to name the area Eugene, Oregon.[1]
Grampa Simpson has told stories about his service in World War II in the Pacific theater.[2][3][4][5][6]
