Lisa went into her room and found Valerie, who she hadn't met yet, crying in her bed. Valerie was crying because she thought she was going to get kicked out. Valerie told Lisa that she was homesick, she didn't fit in and she was the middle child. She then played the jazz clarinet with Lisa playing her saxophone.

Valerie then told Lisa that she was hoping to meet a lifelong friend, and she and Lisa embraced. After Valerie told Lisa her SAT scores, she held Lisa's hands, implying to Lisa that she may want to be more than just friends. They then played their instruments together again.
