[[Orson Welles]] narrated ''The War of the Worlds'' on [[KBBL]] as a prank to give the listeners a laugh. However, the people of [[Springfield]] believed it to be a real news story and started panicking and rioting. Eventually, [[Marge]] came up with the idea to pretend to be animals as the aliens were only killing humans. The people of Springfield stripped naked and wallowed in mud. The next day, [[Lisa]] informed the townspeople that it was all a prank. [[Kang]] and [[Kodos]] then used this moment to invade Springfield, with the townspeople not believing that the threat was real. Welles arrived in Springfield and tried to get [[Chief Wiggum]] to call the military to report the invasion, but Wiggum didn't listen to him. Eventually, it was too late to do anything about the invasion.
