 Mr. Burns decides to put out some propaganda shows about him and the Power Plant, but these are unsuccessful. When Burns questions his board about this, he is told that people are only watching reality television. Burns then decides to start his own reality show, ''{{ap|The Flunky|TV show}}''. Several people audition for the show, including Homer. The first day of the competition has Mr. Burns give everyone guns. He then tells everyone to shoot another contestant. When [[Bernice Hibbert]] refuses to do so, she is terminated. The next task involves the contestants trying to sell more cookies than [[Li'l Chickadee]], but Burns tries to terminate the Chickadee's instead. Burns and his mean streak become a big hit among people, with fans of the show wanting Burns to be mean to them.

 Homer's prize is to run the Power Plant, although Burns makes this a ceremonial role. Burns takes Homer far away from the Power Plant and locks him in a room with a television for him to watch. However, Homer finds that the remote control doesn't have batteries so he breaks out of the room, goes back to Springfield and somehow causes a meltdown. Mr. Burns becomes hated again because of this, although he still ends up with at least one fan of his show.

+When [[Mr. Burns]] realizes that he is unpopular and hated, and that his brand of toothpodwer, Calder's, has been discontinued, he decides that he needs a vacation. Meanwhile, [[Homer]] has an awful day due to multiple horrible things happening to him. Homer then becomes obsessed with reality TV shows after his show got replaced with one. Due to his new obsession, Homer thinks that he's being pranked when the reactor starts to meltdown, causing the whole town to go without power. When Homer is apologizing to the town, he accidentally causes a boycott of the Power Plant, which leads to him being fired. Due to the boycott, Mr. Burns goes on a spending spree to take his mind off it. However, a week passes and people are still boycotting the Power Plant, with them only using electricity to watch television.
