== Plot ==
[[Claude Kane III]] asks [[Gloria Grand]] out on a lunch date, but Gloria turns him down, saying she's dieting. [[Gretchen Grille]] then sarcastically tells Gloria that it's good that she's going to lose extra pounds before anyone mentions it to her. Gloria's boss then calls her into his office. Her boss asks Gloria to cover a small town beauty pageant, which Gloria doesn't want to do because she'd rather focus on crime. Her boss then says that they got a tip the pageant is rigged. Gloria accepts in order to get out of town for the weekend.

Gloria arrives in the town of [[Hornsby]] for the pageant. Gloria goes to a restaurant to get some food and is given amazing service, with one of the waiters saying they were afraid they'd never see a young lady in the restaurant again. The waiter tells Gloria that since the contestants came to town for the pageant, no young women went out to eat at restaurants. Gloria then decides to investigate this, finding out that no eatery in town had a young female patron in weeks.

As Gloria goes to enter her hotel room, she hears someone call for her, then faints. Gloria brings the young woman into her room, who tells Gloria that her name is [[Kate Stone]], and she was the one who called Gloria's boss with the tip. Kate is one of the contestants in the beauty pageant. This year, a contestant from out of town, [[Desiree Del Monica]], was allowed to enter the pageant. All the contestants started starving themselves to get thin in order to beat Desiree. Gloria asks Kate if she's still going to enter, and Kate says she will if she can lose five more pounds.

The next day, the contest finishes and Desiree is declared the winner. Gloria tries to get an interview but is denied. So, she learns where Desiree is staying and sneaks into her room. Desiree has several strange devices that look like they come from the future, and Desiree confronts Gloria. Desiree reveals that she is from 2001 and the standards of beauty have changed. So, Desiree went back to the year 1953 to usurp the judge who rejected her, Kate Stone, who was supposed to win the contest.

Desiree explained that she dated a scientist who invented a time machine and stole it to go back to 1953 to win the contest. She then tricked her rivals into slimming down, altering photos of them to make them look heavier. She also left them subliminal messages to make them slim down. Just then, there's a knock on the door. It's several male fans who enter the room and see a recording of the conversation Desiree just had with Gloria.

When everyone in Hornsby learned that Desiree was from the 21st century, she surrendered. Gloria then contacted {{Ch|Radioactive Man}}
who took her back to 2001 to hand over to the authorities, since he can time travel. Gloria and Gretchen go to a restaurant where they discuss the 21st century. Gloria has ice cream, and Gretchen said that she thought Gloria was dieting. Gloria tells Gretchen to live a little and help her finish the ice cream.
