After conservative radio host [[Birch Barlow]] convinced listeners that [[Sideshow Bob]] was a victim of the justice system, [[Mayor Joe Quimby]] faced a powerful challenger. Bob ran a polished campaign filled with attack ads, staged debates, and promises like the “[[Matlock Expressway]],” while Quimby appeared corrupt and incompetent.

On election day, even voters who personally hated Bob supported him because they favored conservative tax cuts or agreed with isolated policies. Springfield’s absurd final tally gave Bob 100% of the vote and Quimby 1%, “with a 1% margin of error.” After taking office, Bob immediately abused his power by threatening to demolish the Simpsons’ house to build the Matlock Expressway and punishing Bart by sending him back to kindergarten.
