As negotiations between the teachers and [[Principal Seymour Skinner]] reached a stalemate, classes were suspended, and substitute teachers were brought in. Eventually, while discussing possible solutions to the school's financial problems, Skinner and Krabappel devised a plan to generate additional revenue by leasing part of the school to the local prison system. The campus was subsequently transformed into Springfield Elementary School and Prison, allowing the school to raise funds and resolve the dispute while continuing to educate its students.
