== History ==
After disappointing and upsetting [[Lisa]] yet again, she started to act up at school. This led to Homer and [[Marge]] being called in to talk to [[Principal Skinner]] about her behavior. Dr. [[J. Loren Pryor]] said that Homer's actions were leading to Lisa disliking men and he and Principal Skinner told Homer that he had to become a positive role model to Lisa to stop this from happening. Skinner then recommended that Homer becomes the Safety Salamander in an attempt for Homer to restore faith in him and men.

Homer's attempts at being the Safety Salamander get off to a rocky start. After finding that there's no seat belts on the [[school bus]], he gets [[Otto]] to stop the bus suddenly, causing all the children to hurt themselves. When he gave a presentation at the school, he activated fireworks on a sign that says "Safety", which set fire to the school gymnasium. Homer's suit then got stuck in the door, trapping everyone inside until Homer collapsed to the floor. This led to Lisa becoming even more disillusioned with Homer.

When a multi-car pileup happened due to [[Bart]] having removed a street sign, Homer ran in to save everyone as the Safety Salamander. This led to him becoming a town hero and he was given the key card to the city. Due to [[Mayor Quimby]]'s incompetence letting this disaster happen, a recall election is made to happen. After seeing all the awful candidates, Lisa asked Homer to run for [[Mayor of Springfield|mayor]], with him deciding to run as the Safety Salamander.

The Safety Salamander's first press conference was a success, with him rallying support for the people of Springfield. However, that night, Marge realized that the costume was starting to smell badly, so she decided to wash it. When Homer went to the Mayoral Debate, the Safety Salamander costume had shrunk in the wash and was falling apart. When it came to Homer's turn to answer questions, the costume fell apart completely and Homer was rejected by the townspeople, who only liked the Safety Salamander. After this, nobody got enough support to become mayor, leaving Quimby as the mayor.<ref>"[[See Homer Run]]"</ref>
